Black History

Born around 1883 in Butte, Montana, Minnie Brown was a Vaudevillian actress and singer. She was also a former chorus girl with the famous Williams & Walker Co.

While her main ambition was to become a Gospel soloist, she worked as a singer, concert performer, music teacher and director performing in Europe, Russia, and the Far East from 1902 to 1908.

In 1920, she reportedly served as vice president for the National Association of Negro Musicians. This photo of her was taken in 1907.

Harriet Tubman, born Araminta Ross, was a conductor on the Underground Railroad and military leader. Escaping from her owners in Maryland, she became a free woman after reaching Pennsylvania in 1849. Tubman, realizing the need to free other people including her family made several more trips to free slaves and lead them along the Underground railroad.
